About the HPC

The HPC’s mission is to enhance quality of life in Rapid City by engaging in activities that protect historic structures and sites, and cultivate a shared understanding of the community’s history and culture. The HPC coordinates surveys of historic properties, participates in planning, land use, and design review processes, and conducts an educational and interpretive program on historic properties and issues within the City.

A historic review is required for exterior alterations to buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Community workshops, historic property surveys, and walking tours are a few of the HPC’s ongoing projects.

The HPC typically meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, and holds other events throughout the year.
